What our dressing tells about us

Clothes are fabrics made by weaving or knitting into different styles and designs which we wear for different purposes and for different occasions. We wear clothes for many purposes or reasons but most importantly for coverage of our nakedness. This purpose is old as the world's history itself and the Bible story.

We also dress to look smart and beautiful. Clothes makes one look pretty and smarter which attracts admirers to us, from friends neighbours, etc.

We can also consider another importance of dressing in the area of protection against cold or harm. There are people who are allergic to cold and can not bear staying naked or half clothed in cold weather or any cool environment, then staying covered and properly dressed becomes essential and needful. Just as wearing clothes helps prevent harms, like bits and scratches.

However, having talked on the importance of clothing, let us also see the abuse of our dressing, especially from the teenagers, the youth or even some of our elderly women, to be precise.

Todays mothers want to see their children dressed as adults, what? Like adult? No way! Parents wants to see their children dressed as superstars, half clothed, almost or if possible utterly naked because that is how they themselves dress as you can only give your child what you have.

Some parents like to dress their male ones to look like superstars and cowboys, with rugged jeans and open necked shirts thereby making them look like raga boys. While on the other hand, the girl child is nothing to write home about. A girl of 5 years who is dressed on bumper short and showback top by her mother, how is she expected to dress when she comes of age?

"Some parents like to dress their male ones to look like superstars and cowboys, with rugged jeans and open necked shirts thereby making them look like raga boys."

The movie stars and musicians are not left out on this issue of abuse of dressing among teenagers and youth which some mothers also emulate. More or less of our movie producers and directors display or cast half dressed and naked ladies and guys as their actresses and actors, and our children now see and consider them as their idols and role models. For incentives, children love to dress more like the musicians as whores and street girls or boys, than polite and well trained children.

The musicians and dancers are also accepted as their fashion models. The youth are usually excited whenever they are addressed or called by the name of one of these movie stars or musicians. And also enjoy being called 'Slay queens' 'Baes and booboos' that dress to kill.

The media talked of one musician that was arrested for showcasing nude dancer's on a glassy truck a few months ago. Many applauded him for that action of depravity and nonsense display. What? What are we turning into? We forget that, you are addressed as you are dressed?

Some of our churches encourage and promote these also. Imagine some churches allowing ladies to come into the church on skimpy skirt or gown, with sleeveless tops, some exposing their cleavage for all to see, because they where taught by their so called Pastor that what they wear do not matter for their God is only interested in their heart and not on their outfits. So I wondered if they dressed as a prostitute to evangelize to prostitutes.

Students sent to acquire education and even the uneducated are not left out. What shall we then to correct this ill in our society for even the harlots of 1990s did not dress shamelessly the way we dress today.

An adage says, charity begins at home. Parents should please let this change and correction starts with them. Dress smartly and decently. Especially the mothers, your children see you as perfectionist, dress them decently now so that when they grow they will not change their mode of dressing. Just as Proverbs 22:6 cautioned.

The churches should please teach the congregation the consequences of indecent dressing and the punishments that await such actions and not to encourage it in order to have large congregation.
Finally, youths , the media and the film makers should please help us by shunning immorality away from the film industry since they know that many see them as fashion models. Laws should be enacted that penalises flaws.
